Davide Carnevali

Born in Milan in 1981, he holds a doctorate in theatre theory from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, with a period of study from the Freie Universität Berlin. He is currently an associate artist at ERT Emilia Romagna Theatre and playwright for the Royal Shakespeare Company as part of Projekt Europe 2020. He teaches dramaturgy and theatre theory at: Civica Scuola di Teatro Paolo Grassi in Milan, Scuola di Teatro Iolanda Gazzerro in Modena, Institut del Teatre de Barcelona. He has written, among others: Variazioni sul modello di Kraepelin (Variations on the model of Kraepelin, translated by Elizabeth Burr, Hannah Anderson, Abner Barthel, Caitlin Gordon, in collaboration with students of the second class studying the Italian Program at Portland State University in 2013 led by prof. Angela Zagarella) (Premio Theatertreffen Stückemarkt 2009, Premio Marisa Fabbri 2009, Premio de les Journées des auteurs de Lyon 2012); Sweet Home Europa (Schauspielhaus Bochum, 2012); Ritratto di donna araba che guarda il mare (Portrait of an Arab Woman Looking at the Sea, translated by Margherita Laera) (Premio Riccione per il Teatro 2013); Actes obscens en espai públic (Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, 2017); Maleducazione transiberiana (Teatro Franco Parenti, 2018), Ein Porträt des Künstlers als Toter (Staatsoper Unter den Linden, 2018); Menelao (ERT, 2018). Since 2018 he has been writing and directing the Classroom Plays, theatre shows in schools, for an ERT project. In 2018 he was awarded the Hystrio Prize for Dramaturgy for his artistic trajectory. His texts, translated into thirteen languages, have been presented in several countries. It is published in Italy by Einaudi and Luca Sossella Editore and in France by Actes Sud. He has also published the essay Forma dramática y representación del mundo en el teatro europeo contemporáneo (Ciudad de México, Paso de Gato, 2017) and the collection of short stories Il diavolo innamorato (Rome, Fandango, 2019).

Davide is the author of Variations on Kraepelin's Model.
